ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) – An Elkhart police officer was arrested Monday following an off-duty incident.

Detectives with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cpl. Tyler Koeppel, 30, on two preliminary misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy. Koeppel is being held at the Elkhart County Corrections Facility.

Police said the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office is working to determine if formal criminal charges will be filed.

According to police, Koeppel was already on paid administrative leave at the time of his arrest. He was placed on leave June 30 pending the outcome of an investigation by an outside law enforcement agency and the Elkhart Police Department’s Professional Standards division.

Koeppel will remain on leave pending further criminal and internal investigations. He was sworn in as an Elkhart Police Department officer in 2022.

Police did not provide additional information about what led up to Koeppel’s arrest. WNDU is working to learn more.
