Offensive Security (OffSec) has announced the release of Kali Linux 2026.2, the latest stable version of its Debian-based GNU/Linux distribution designed for penetration testing and ethical hacking.

Released just over three months after Kali Linux 2026.1, Kali Linux 2026.2 is powered by the Linux 6.19 kernel and introduces support for the GNOME 50 and KDE Plasma 6.6 desktop environments. Xfce remains the distribution’s default desktop environment and continues to ship with the stable 4.20 series.

The release also expands Kali’s toolkit with several new utilities. These include arsenal-ng, a Go-based command library featuring an extensive collection of cybersecurity cheat sheets; hydra-gtk, a graphical interface for the fast network logon cracker Hydra; legba, a multiprotocol credential brute-forcing, password spraying, and enumeration tool; and oletools, which helps analyze Microsoft OLE2 files and Office documents.

Additional tools introduced in this release include Penelope, a powerful shell handler; shell-gpt, an AI-powered command-line productivity assistant; Tailscale, a secure connectivity platform; tookie-osint, an OSINT tool for discovering social media accounts; and uro, a utility that cleans and organizes URLs for web crawling and penetration testing.

Beyond new tools, Kali Linux 2026.2 brings several system improvements. Helper scripts have been updated to provide greater consistency across service-dependent tools, APT sources now use the modern DEB822 format by default, pre-installed graphics firmware has been removed from virtual machine images, and Kali NetHunter has been enhanced with support for additional devices.
