Inspired by Open Joystick Display, CollabPlayInputDisplay just released a first version for on-screen controller input displaying on Linux.
The developer emailed in to GamingOnLinux to explain: “CollabPlayInputDisplay is a game controller display that lets you view your controller inputs in realtime, perfect for showing them on a video or stream. It has themes for common game controllers out of the box, including PlayStation, Xbox, and more. It’s designed as a powerful yet simple and easy to-use input display, and it already recognizes most controllers thanks to SDL3. Fully free and open source, and built in Godot, with a convenient single-file executable”.
Sounds like a useful project, especially for video content creators on Linux. Being able to show viewers exactly what you’re pressing is a fun little addition to videos of all kinds.
As for the inspiration: “My inspiration for this project was Open Joystick Display, which has been abandoned a long time ago. I wanted something native, thus not dependent on faulty web APIs, and that supports showing multiple different controllers at once – think showing player 1 and player 2’s inputs at the same time.”
The developer told me clearly no generative AI was used for the project and had some pretty stern words against using generative AI.
Made with Godot too – interesting to see more apps and not just games.
