The open source community-made NVIDIA Vulkan driver (NVK) for Linux now has experimental support for DLSS.

Something that has been in progress for a while, started off by Valve contractor Autumn with a Mesa merge request that was sent back in October 2025. That seemed to just get stuck, so another developer Thomas Andersen picked up some of the code and got it cleaned up which has now been merged into NVK.

From their post:

This is an attempt to move !37898 forward. I have fixed merge conflicts, and added fixup commits for API changes and some review comments. There is also a bugfix that fixed the issues I found when using the latest DLSS versions.

The last commit hides the extension behind a NVK_EXPERIMENTAL_DLSS env var. There are several games known to glitch with the current state of the MR, but it would be good to at least make it testable for more users, to get a better picture of how many games are affected.

Another small step towards not needing the NVIDIA proprietary driver. Nice!

With the code merged it should arrive in Mesa 26.2 that’s currently scheduled for August 5th or soon after.
