Something exciting is coming for iPhone users, and it’s about Siri.
Remember Siri? It’s a tool iPhone users might not use all that often because it doesn’t always get things right.
Well, this upgrade might put a stop to that.
Apple unveiled its biggest overhaul of Siri since the assistant’s 2011 debut at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday.
The overhaul includes a new standalone Siri app called Siri AI, which positions Apple as a contender in the AI space.
According to Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, the new version of Siri “is more intelligent, knowledgeable and capable.”
“Siri is now a profoundly more capable assistant that helps you find what you need and gets more done,” said Mike Rockwell, VP of Siri Engineering. “It’s also more conversational, so you can go back and forth like never before and get detailed, engaging answers. As you have these rich conversations, you can refer back to them with a new dedicated Siri app.”
Siri’s voice could also be adjusted for “expressivity and pace,” Rockwell said. However, this will only be available in English initially.
So, here’s how the new Siri AI will work.
Siri AI will privately sync your conversational history to your iCloud, allowing you to start a conversation with Siri on your phone, iPad or Mac.
The new AI is also coming to watchOS, so users can ask questions directly on their Apple Watch. The Siri app will also be available on the watch.
Additionally, the new AI will be accessible through the device’s camera, allowing users to ask what is in a photo they are looking at or to take a picture of a restaurant check to split the payment.
The updates will extend to CarPlay as well as Apple’s Airpods.
Users can access Siri by swiping down from the Dynamic Island at the top of the iPhone’s screen and by invoking it from Spotlight on Mac.
