For years, serious creative and AI work on a laptop meant one thing: MacBook Pro. That changed at Computex 2026 this week. NVIDIA just revealed it’s building the entire brain of a laptop for the first time. And the results are already rattling Apple. Here’s what the Surface Laptop Ultra with NVIDIA’s RTX Spark can actually do — and whether it’s worth waiting for.

What Is the RTX Spark Chip, Exactly?

Think of RTX Spark as NVIDIA’s version of what Apple did with its M-series chips. In short, one piece of silicon handles CPU, GPU, and memory together.

RTX Spark combines an ARM-based CPU with 20 cores and a Blackwell GPU with 6,144 CUDA cores. CUDA cores are the units NVIDIA uses to process graphics and AI tasks. Additionally, the chip supports up to 128GB of unified memory. That GPU level is roughly equivalent to a standalone RTX 5070 — a desktop card costing several hundred dollars on its own.

According to NVIDIA, the chip handles 90GB 3D scene rendering, 12K video editing, and 120-billion-parameter AI model inference. It also targets AAA gaming at 1440p above 100 FPS with ray tracing. Those are bold claims. However, they’re backed by something Apple can’t match: NVIDIA’s full software stack, including DLSS 4.5, CUDA, and RTX ray tracing.

How the Surface Laptop Ultra Stacks Up on Paper

The Surface Laptop Ultra pairs RTX Spark with a 15-inch mini-LED touchscreen. It reaches up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR brightness — brighter than any Surface shipped before. The ports are also complete: HDMI, three USB-C, USB-A, and a headphone jack. No dongles required.

Pricing is estimated between $3,000 and $7,000. That places it against the MacBook Pro M5 Max, which runs $3,599 to $3,899 for the 16-inch model. Final pricing isn’t confirmed. Nevertheless, the specs clearly put this in workstation territory.
