LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – The town of Mountain Park is working with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation as a cybersecurity breach affected the town’s computer network.
According to a press release town officials discovered emails from their account were dispersed throughout the community.
The matter is now being investigated under the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act. Residents of Mountain Park were notified recently, it’s unknown if any sensitive data was leaked.
“I would say it’s possible, I cannot say for sure,” Mountain Park Board Member Beverly Emswiler said. “At this point, we don’t know the extent of the breach, we are just aware that there was one. That’s the current investigation; we’re hoping OSBI can help us figure that out.”
Town employees are already making changes to better protect these systems.
That includes changing all passwords and switching internet service providers.
Officials are also searching for an IT employee.
