Test and measurement technology suppler Kistler Instrument and California-based injection molding training organization FimmTech have entered a strategic partnership. Through this collaboration, cavity pressure sensors and process-monitoring systems from Kistler are integrated directly into FimmTech’s injection molding seminars, connecting measurement-based process control with practical, hands-on training. The companies say the combination of FimmTech’s scientific molding methodology training portfolio with advanced measurement technology will help make molders more efficient.

Suhas Kulkarni, president at FimmTech, and Plastics Technology contributor, said his company, which was founded in 2004, has seen firsthand how molders sometimes struggle when they either have the equipment but lack the process knowledge to use it effectively, or they have the knowledge but lack the equipment. “This partnership provides both simultaneously for deeper process understanding and effective use of the technologies,” Kulkarni says. He noted his belief that cavity pressure sensing is a “must-have technology” particularly for precision molding in markets like medical. “Molders struggle with parts where the process windows are very small because of the nature of the part or mold design,” Kulkarni says. “The use of cavity pressure technology is the perfect solution here.”
At the heart of this collaboration is the integration of cavity pressure sensors and process-monitoring systems from Kistler into FimmTech’s training seminars and technical workshops. Going forward, participants will work directly with Kistler equipment during hands-on sessions, applying measurement-based process control within the context of scientific molding principles, according to Kim Pfluger, general manager at Kistler North…
