Starting next school year, parents in Philadelphia will be able to track their kids while they’re on the school bus through new technology.

The School District of Philadelphia announced this week that it is partnering with Zūm to modernize its student mobility operations beginning in the 2026–2027 school year.

This deal means these new state-of-the-art, air-conditioned buses will be equipped with advanced safety technology that lets parents see when their kids get on and off, and when buses will arrive.

The tracking technology involves an app that families can download, giving “visibility into every ride.”

The app has an average family satisfaction rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars, based on over 1.5 million total ratings, according to the company.

For Philadelphia, Zūm will cover at least 200 routes, serving 330 schools in the district.

“We are privileged to partner with The School District of Philadelphia to set a new standard for reliable and efficient transportation across the district,” said Ritu Narayan, Founder and CEO of Zum. “Through Zum’s advanced technology and operational expertise, families in Philadelphia will have peace of mind knowing every student has a dependable ride to school. We look forward to serving this welcoming and diverse school community and building our team in Philadelphia.”

Adopted in 17 states, Zūm now operates a unified system across more than 4,500 schools, including major districts in Los Angeles, Oakland, and San Francisco, California; Omaha, Nebraska; Kansas City, Missouri; and Roanoke, Virginia.
