After years of using Samsung phones, I switched to an iPhone for a month to see what the experience was actually like beyond first impressions. It was polished, smooth, and easy to admire at first. But living with it every day was a completely different experience. I kept running into frustrations that I never had on my Samsung. By the end of the month, it was a relief to be back.
The first swipe told me this wasn’t home
Even going back needed a tutorial
Navigation was the first thing that felt wrong. On Samsung, going back is simple: you swipe or tap, and the phone responds the same way every time. I’m used to leaving screens the same way, whether I’m deep in Settings, inside an app, or backing out of something I opened by mistake. The iPhone broke that rhythm almost immediately. The left-edge swipe worked in some places, but not in a way I could trust, and when it didn’t, I had to look around for whatever button that screen was using instead.
It wasn’t that iOS was hard to understand, but that basic navigation never felt consistent. Some screens had a back button in the top-left corner, others had a close button, while some gave me no clear exit at all. Instead of moving through the phone naturally, I had to check how to get out of each screen before doing anything else.
