Lucid Motors announced that the software update adding Apple CarPlay and Android Auto would be delivered to Gravity owners in North America on Thursday. In Europe and the Middle East, expectations for a similar update are planned for the end of March, which enhances smartphone usability in this electric SUV.
Mobile device mirroring features were previously available on the Lucid Air sedan. However, Gravity, on which this release is now based, at the start of its life cycle faced a number of software issues that created a crisis, and the interim CEO apologized to the owners.
The company recently laid off several top software executives, and last month announced a 12% staff cut.
Context and Future Plans
On the same day that the update is expected to be released, Lucid is preparing an Investor Day in New York, where it plans to discuss the upcoming mid-range EV platform, the company’s path to profitability, and the launch of a luxury robotaxi service with Uber and Nuro.
The update reflects the company’s strategic focus on developing the Gravity ecosystem and future services for its customers.
