A partnership has been formed to deliver specialized cybersecurity training for public transportation organizations. The initiative involves the American Public Transportation Association and the Center for Critical Infrastructure Protection.

The training will be offered through a digital learning platform with multiple formats available, such as pre-recorded sessions and remote or in-person live instruction. Curriculum and teaching will be handled by the Center for Critical Infrastructure Protection, which is based at a transportation technology facility in Colorado, and will follow established industry guidelines.

An introductory course covers fundamental cybersecurity principles and reviews actual cyber events that have affected transportation systems. It also teaches recognition of frequent threats like phishing and malware, alongside recommended procedures for securing passwords, protecting data, and using the internet and email safely.

On February 3, a senior director from the transit association stated that educating transit employees to recognize and address cyber risks is now a critical requirement, as threats persistently change.
