General Motors is still not backing down from its decision to remove car connectivity software from its vehicles, but a third-party brand is here to bring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay back through a new adapter.

The latest adapter only brings Android Auto and CarPlay to Chevrolet vehicles and GM’s electric cars, but it is already a huge step for owners who still prefer this technology over the company’s OnStar and Google Built-in.

Chevy, GM EVs Get Android Auto, CarPlay Via New Adapter

According to a report by 9to5Google, a new device that popped up in the market called “EV Play LT” delivers a new adapter for select General Motors vehicles and brings in-car connectivity for users.

This adapter brings back Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which GM has long dropped in favor of its in-house developments for an affordable price.

The report said that this new adapter also brings a dedicated app that users may install on their Android-powered infotainment system that GM developed, Google Built-in, to deliver the workaround.

The app will project the Android Auto or Apple CarPlay connectivity feature via wired or wireless methods and essentially deliver a native experience to users.

The company said that it works for multiple GM vehicles, but only in select models that are mostly under the Chevrolet brand. It likewise works for several electric vehicles in its lineup. These include the likes of:

  • 2024 to 2026 Chevrolet Equinox
  • 2024 to 2026 Chevrolet Blazer
  • 2024 to 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV
  • 2024 to 2026 GMC Sierra
  • 2024 to 2026 Hummer EV
  • Cadillac IQ
  • Cadillac IQL
  • Cadillac Optiq
  • Cadillac Vistiq

It was revealed that the company claimed that this adapter could theoretically work on newer vehicles from Chevrolet’s lineup, like the 2027 Chevy Bolt EV. Should you wish to attempt, it will be at your own risk, said 9to5Google.
