Display specialist HANNspree has announced the Lumo Paper Tablet, a new kind of Android tablet designed to deliver a paper-like viewing experience without the usual compromises. Rather than positioning Lumo as a slow, monochrome eReader alternative, HANNspree is pitching it as a full-fat Android tablet that prioritises eye comfort while still handling everyday apps, media, and productivity.
At the centre of that promise is a 7.8-inch paper-like display capable of showing 16.7 million colours, paired with a 60Hz refresh rate and a rapid 5ms response time. That combination is key. It means scrolling feels natural, videos are watchable, and even casual games and video calls are viable—areas where traditional e-ink style panels tend to fall apart.
Designed for eyes, not glare

Lumo uses HANNspree’s proprietary ecoVISION display technology, developed by its parent company HannStar. Instead of relying on a harsh backlight, the panel reflects ambient light much like real paper. The brighter the environment, the clearer and more vivid the display appears, all while using less power.
The result is a flicker-free, anti-glare, blue-light-free viewing experience that’s intended to reduce eye strain during long sessions. HANNspree positions Lumo squarely at professionals working all day on screens, students and educators, children, and users with visual sensitivities such as migraines, photophobia, or computer vision syndrome.
For night-time use, Lumo includes an integrated LED front light that automatically adjusts brightness for comfortable reading after dark, without undermining the paper-like feel.
