( July 14, 2026, 09:20 GMT | Official Statement) — MLex Summary: Japan will seek to accelerate the deployment of agentic and other artificial intelligence technologies while establishing an open approach to AI sovereignty that avoids dependence on particular vendors or countries, according to the second AI Basic Plan approved by the Cabinet on Tuesday. The strategy also calls for strengthening the reliability of AI through institutional, technological and organizational measures to address increasingly complex risks, while positioning Japan to play a leading role in international AI governance, including by enhancing the role of the AI Safety Institute.
