Google announced today that the latest release of its Android developer IDE, Android Studio Quail 2, is now available.
“Android Studio Quail 2 is now stable and ready for you to use in production, bringing a shift to your IDE with concurrent agentic workflows, natively integrated memory leak profiling, and context-aware crash remediation,” Google product manager Amman Asfaw writes. “Whether you are performing a sweeping architectural overhaul, tracing a memory leak, or resolving a critical production crash, Android Studio keeps you anchored in your workspace by reducing manual friction.”
Here are some key new features in this release:
Agent Mode redesigned from the ground up. The new architecture provides better performance, more flexibility for decomposing complex tasks, and improvements to the suite of internal tools the agent uses to do its work, Google says. Now, you can converse with multiple agents simultaneously across different chats and multitask seamlessly.
LeakCanary. This popular open source memory leak detector is now integrated directly into the Android Studio Profiler and makes finding leaks much faster and “jank-free.”
App Quality Insights agent integration. App Quality Insights (AQI) is now fully integrated with Agent Mode so you can more easily track down the root cause of an app crash and move from issue identification to resolution.
Quality and stability improvements. As you might expect, this update also addresses numerous bugs and incorporates the latest stability and performance improvements from the IntelliJ platform.
Android Studio Quail 2 is free and available from the Android Developer website.
