Apple’s first foldable iPhone appears to be right on schedule as the long-rumoured iPhone Ultra has reportedly entered mass production, adding further weight to expectations that it will debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro this September.
According to sources cited by Cailian Press, production of the foldable flagship is now underway across Apple’s supply chain. This follows Samsung Display reportedly beginning manufacturing its foldable OLED panels in mid-June. The report claims a September launch is “no problem”. Therefore, earlier rumours of manufacturing delays may no longer apply.
That lines up with several recent reports indicating Apple has overcome production issues surrounding key components, including the phone’s complex hinge. If accurate, the iPhone Ultra will launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, the Apple Watch Series 12 and the Apple Watch Ultra 3 during Apple’s usual autumn hardware event.
Apple is also said to be preparing for a relatively ambitious launch. The company plans to manufacture around 10 million iPhone Ultra units by the end of the year. However, production could still be adjusted depending on demand after release.
The foldable itself is expected to take on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. Rumours point to a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch foldable internal screen. Underneath, it’s likely to feature Apple’s upcoming A20 Pro chip, the company’s own C2 5G modem, and a Touch ID fingerprint sensor built into the side-mounted power button in place of Face ID.

Price is likely to be one of the biggest talking points. The iPhone Ultra could cost somewhere between $2,000 and $2,500 in the US, putting it firmly in premium foldable territory and making it one of Apple’s most expensive consumer devices to date.
Of course, none of this has been confirmed by Apple. But reports that production is already…
