Huawei Pura 90 series is coming to the overseas market this month and the flagship may finally unlock a new EMUI version, based on Android 16. Rumors have it that the company will pre-install the top-end devices with the EMUI 16 software iteration.
Weibo tipster @SuperDimensional has reported that the Huawei Pura 90 series will debut globally with EMUI 16. The company will launch a new software version for its upcoming global devices.
Another clue on this matter is the recent Geekbench listing of the Pura 90s Pro Max. It shows that the device is running Android 16 and a new Kirin 5G mobile chip.

The Chinese tech giant is significantly focusing on the HarmonyOS expansion on a global scale. But there have been no signs of changes in the EMUI world for a long time.

EMUI 15 debuted in 2024 with the Mate X6 foldable. Huawei initiated a small rollout of the new version to some eligible devices. However, it halted the global software iteration process for an uncertain period.
Mate X7 was expected to show up on the global stage with a new EMUI build. But the OEM continued to use the same old software with certain tweaks and improvements.
It looks like Huawei may finally bring the long-awaited EMUI 16 upgrade with the Pura 90 smartphones. It is worth mentioning that the company hasn’t announced any details on this subject yet. Hence, it’s unclear whether the firm will release the new version only for the latest devices or for other compatible models as well.
