Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro Max is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about smartphones of 2026 — and not just for its features. According to multiple reports, it could also be one of the most expensive iPhones Apple has ever released.
None of this has been confirmed by Apple. But the reports are specific enough that they are worth paying attention to.

Reports suggest that research firm IDC has estimated that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could be priced up to $200 (approximately ₹16,700) higher than the current generation. That would put the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s starting price at around $1,399 (approximately ₹1,16,800) — a significant jump from where it stands today.
The Wall Street Journal has reported that the iPhone 18 Pro could itself start at $1,399 (approximately ₹1,16,800), citing a sharp rise in RAM costs as one of the driving factors.

Why could it cost so much more?
The short answer is the chip.The iPhone 18 Pro Max is widely reported to feature Apple’s next-generation A20 chip, built on TSMC’s 2-nanometer manufacturing process. According to reports, TSMC has told Apple that 2nm chip production will cost at least 50 per cent more than 3-nanometer chips, owing to the complexity of the manufacturing process and the equipment involved.
Those costs, analysts believe, are likely to be passed on to the consumer at least in part.
Beyond the chip, reports also point to a rise in RAM costs — reportedly more than tripling — as another factor pushing the price upward.
