You can’t really customize the machine to your liking, you can only pick from pre-fab models and stock can be dicey — especially if third-party sellers are involved. But every once in a while you find a hidden gem, and Prime Day has delivered on that this year. Prime Day deals include the Apple MacBook Air M3 laptop with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage for $799 — that’s 38 percent off its starting price.

If you weren’t keeping track, the latest chip from Apple is the M5, so this laptop is a little older (it originally came out in 2024). However, just because it’s not the latest and greatest doesn’t mean it’s a slouch. The M3 chipset is more than capable and, likely, more power than most regular users need. You’ll easily be able to multitask on this MacBook Air, running multiple browser tabs and programs simultaneously, and maybe even do some light gaming. It’s even powerful enough to work with Apple Intelligence, and it will work with the latest upcoming version of macOS (27, dubbed Golden Gate). The design is one that Apple enthusiasts will be familiar with, featuring an all-metal design, a comfortable keyboard and trackpad, plus all-day battery life.

Aside from the deep price cut, what makes this deal so compelling is that Apple recently announced its intention to raise prices sometime in the near future due to the memory shortages that the entire tech industry is dealing with. We don’t know when the price hikes will hit or which products will be affected, but that means that you’ll likely pay more for things like MacBooks in the future. So while this discounted MacBook is a couple years old at this point, it might be one of the last opportunities for a while to get an M-powered MacBook for less than $1,000.
