JAKARTA – The United States military is said to use Grok, Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence, to help in rapid strike operations in the war with Iran. The admission comes from the sworn statement of a senior Pentagon official in a court document.

Anadolu Agency, quoted on Saturday, June 20, reported that senior Pentagon official Cameron Stanley made the statement on Monday in a federal case in Mississippi.

Stanley, the Pentagon’s Chief of Digital and Artificial Intelligence, said the Maven Smart Systems or MSS workflow helped US forces deploy more than 2,000 munitions to 2,000 different targets in 96 hours during Operation Epic Fury.

He called the achievement as proof of increased operational efficiency thanks to the Grok Gov model.

Maven Smart System is an AI-based command and data analysis platform developed by the Pentagon in collaboration with Palantir. This system helps the military process data, read targets, and speed up decision-making.

According to Anadolu Agency, Stanley’s statement was filed in an environmental case seeking to halt gas-fuelled turbines for xAI’s Colossus 2 data centre. xAI is Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company.

Stanley argued that disruption to the facility could threaten national security interests as the military relies on the supercomputer to train and improve AI capabilities.

Stanley even compared the giant data center to an ammunition factory.

“The ability to operate data facilities on a massive scale is as fundamental to our modern defense posture as the production of traditional munitions,” Stanley said.

He also said users on the Pentagon network use about 1.5 billion words every day to manage logistics, predictive analysis, and military planning. Predictive analysis is the use of data to predict needs or risks before they occur.

The Pentagon’s reliance on xAI comes after its partnership with Anthropic ended. The company declined to model Claude AI for fully automated attacks or domestic…
