SIMPSON COUNTY, Ky. (WSMV) — Drone technology helped Kentucky law enforcement find a missing 2-year-old and a dog.

On June 9, just after 5 p.m., the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a missing child report in the 4300 block of Schweizer Road.

The missing child triggered an immediate multiagency response, including agents from the South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force (SCKDTF).

SCKDTF brought a tool that reportedly made “all the difference”: a drone.

Within moments of launching the drone, operators spotted the missing family dog circling a swimming pool at a neighboring home.

Emergency officials quickly went to the home to find the 2-year-old next to the pool’s edge.

EMS evaluated the child on the scene, and the child was safely reunited with the family.

“This incident is a powerful reminder of what coordinated emergency response and modern technology can accomplish. What could have become a tragedy was averted in minutes, thanks to the eyes-in-the-sky capability that drone technology provides to our first responders,” SCKDTF said on Facebook. “The South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force is proud of the seamless cooperation between every agency involved and remains committed to utilizing every resource available to keep our community safe.”
