KYIV: Ukraine’s defence AI chief predicts a ‘new paradigm’ of warfare as artificial intelligence integrates into unified networks, radically accelerating battlefield decision-making.
Danylo Tsvok, head of the defense ministry’s AI center, warned that if the conflict continues, it will soon evolve into a ‘war of operating systems’ with Russia within the next three to five years.
Currently, Ukraine utilizes AI to guide drones at targets, plan combat operations, and crunch data from Russian missile strikes. However, the long-term goal is to build a single operating system that links weapons and data into a unified network across the 1,200-kilometer front line, feeding recommendations directly to human commanders.
The technological race has drawn foreign tech firms eager to test software using real-world combat data. Meanwhile, Moscow is expanding its own AI capabilities to plan coordinated strikes. Tsvok noted that while humans remain in the loop, advancing autonomous systems may eventually outrun human response speeds.
