A fresh Steam Beta release brings improved Pipewire session logic on Linux which should make streaming and recording better.

Nice to see some more direct Linux improvements in the Steam Client – all work towards the Steam Machine and Steam Frame that are due to launch this Summer. We also recently had more SteamVR improvements. Hopefully all this will eventually result in more games with anti-cheat working on Linux, be sure to check out the GamingOnLinux anti-cheat guide for more info.

The latest changes are listed below:

General

  • Improved Pipewire session logic on Linux. If persistent capture permissions are granted to Steam, there will only be an active Pipewire session when streaming or recording.

Remote Play

  • Added a 100 Mbit/s bandwidth option
  • The “Unlimited” bandwidth option allows adaptive bitrate up to 250 MBit/s when connecting to the latest Steam beta

In-Game Overlay

  • Fix beta regression with crashing a small number of games on startup on some system configurations
