Mountain Rides switches web platforms after cybersecurity issues | Transportation

Wood River Valley public transportation agency Mountain Rides has switched to a new website platform after experiencing cybersecurity issues.
On Monday morning, the Mountain Rides website displayed a pop-up window that asked users to “verify you are human” by clicking on-screen buttons and following keyboard prompts.
Mountain Rides spokeswoman Andrea Hernandez told the Express it was the same as an attack on wordpress.com websites in general that caused the agency trouble during the latter part of last week.
Last week’s attack spanned from Wednesday, June 3, through Friday, June 5, and asked users to complete the same prompt.
Hernandez said the pop-up box and prompts that appeared this week and last week did not appear to contain any viruses. She said Clear Mind Graphics, a web-design company that helped design the website, had run three separate tests to try and confirm no virus was being transmitted by the pop-ups. She said the company as of Tuesday afternoon was still looking into the possibility of a virus being transmitted. Hernandez told the Express on Tuesday that the attack seemed to be targeting websites built using wordpress.com in an attempt to identify “weak points.”
Clear Mind Graphics Founder Sarah Murphy said in a statement to the Express that Mountain Rides’ website was being moved to a “hardened host environment built on Amazon Web Services,” which includes additional security.
“Based on our investigation to date, we have found no evidence that the incident has resulted in malware being distributed to visitors or that it poses an ongoing threat to the broader community,” Murphy said.
She said that Clear Mind Graphics is committed to safeguarding a secure and reliable website for the community.
