Linux 7.1-rc7 Adding More AMD Zen 6 CPU Models

Ahead of the Linux 7.1-rc7 test kernel release due out later today, a pull request has been submitted of some “x86 fixes” for this kernel release. Most notable with this pull request is acknowledging some additional AMD Zen 6 CPU models.
Last month I wrote about a new patch from AMD expandign the range of Zen 6 CPUs detected by the Linux kernel. It’s that patch now queued up for merging today to Linux Git for the existing Linux 7.1 kernel cycle.
The Linux kernel up to now had been recognizing Family 26 (1Ah) models 80 (0x50) to 95 (0x5F), models 128 (0x80) to 175 (0xaf), and models 192 (0xc0) to 207 (0xcf) as being Zen 6 processors. With the new patch, that last block of models is being expanded from 192 to 239 (0xef). The usual caveats apply that this doesn’t necessarily mean the Zen 6 CPU product line-up is getting much larger but sometimes extra models are reserved for engineering parts, custom SKUs, possible but not yet planned products, and similar scenarios. It’s better getting additional IDs in earlier than later to the kernel for helping to ease the support in the future.
That’s the main item to note with today’s x86 fixes pull request.
From my external independent monitoring, it looks like the AMD Zen 6 CPU and platform support continues coming along well for the mainline Linux kernel ahead of the next-gen Ryzen and EPYC product launches.
