Apple’s next major iPhone software update could give millions of users a reason to consider moving on to a newer device.
The company is expected to unveil iOS 27 at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. Reports suggest the update will place a much heavier emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI) features than previous software releases.
While Apple has traditionally supported older iPhones for years after launch, the headline features in iOS 27 may only be available on newer models capable of running Apple Intelligence.

That could create a stronger upgrade cycle than Apple has seen in recent years.

However, many of the update’s most significant additions are rumored to require Apple Intelligence, the tech giant’s AI platform introduced in 2024.
Apple Intelligence currently requires an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or newer device.
What to Know
iOS 27 will reportedly introduce a significantly upgraded Siri experience built on large language model technology, including a chatbot-style interface, deeper personal context awareness, better understanding of on-screen content and a dedicated Siri application.
