Users may only see a nominal improvement with the iPhone 18 Pro Max battery as opposed to its predecessor.
Per AppleInsider, noted leaker Fixed Focus Digital has reported on Weibo that for the US, the iPhone 18 Pro will have a 4,288 mAh battery. For China, which still requires space for a physical SIM card, the capacity will be 4,056 mAh.
This compares to the iPhone 17 Pro which in its US version had a 4,252 mAh battery. That was actually almost 19 percent higher than the previous iPhone 16 Pro.
If the reported figures are correct, this would amount to only a 0.85 percent battery improvement over the US iPhone 17 Pro’s battery. China’s SIM-card model does better, with a 1.71 percent improvement on the previous model’s 3,988 mAh.
Historically, Apple has never offered precise mAh figures for its batteries and has instead opted to provide example hours of usage for its devices. When the company described that 19 percent leap from the iPhone 16 Pro to the iPhone 17 Pro as meaning six more hours of on-device video playback, or eight more hours of streaming video.
Apple’s A20 processor, which is said to be en route for its next-gen iPhones, is said to be its first 2-nanometer processor. Compared to the previous 3-nanometer processors, it’s been reported that the A20 could improve battery life and may also provide between 10 percent and 15 percent performance improvement. Finally, the A20 price point is said to be double that of the A19, a factor which could force Apple to raise its prices for the upcoming handset.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
