Americans don’t like artificial intelligence; they don’t trust it, and they worry that it will steal their jobs. Taking on the tech moguls who want to force the world to use this technology, and who also happen to increasingly support the GOP, is a win-win for Democrats trying to bring the working class back to their side.

Imagine a world in which truck manufacturers get so powerful that the only vehicles allowed on the road are 18-wheelers. It doesn’t matter that they consume much more energy, are worse for the environment, more dangerous, and less maneuverable than cars; if you want to get behind the wheel, it needs to be that of a semi. 

Cops, EMTs, delivery drivers, NASCAR racers, teenagers in driver’s ed, and residents of large cities who must maneuver narrow streets and parallel park in tight spots — they all either have to drive one of these behemoths or walk.

Oh, and because the trucking industry is so powerful, they’ve lobbied to do away with most regulations regarding the safety and efficiency of semis.

How do you think that would go over?

By the way, that’s not to say that 18-wheelers don’t have some uses. They are a great tool for hauling goods across long distances, moving extremely heavy objects, and maintaining a seamless supply chain.

However, it would be foolhardy to force people into driving them if they don’t use their vehicles for any of these things — and one would think that, no matter how much money the trucking industry spends on lining the pockets of lawmakers, politicians would figure out that nobody else wants this.

Well, it’s kinda like that with artificial intelligence.
