Cydome and Rakuten Maritime have entered into a partnership aimed at strengthening cybersecurity protection for connected vessels and smart ship operations.
The collaboration combines Cydome’s maritime cybersecurity technology with Rakuten Maritime’s digital infrastructure platform, offering ship operators a more integrated approach to protecting both IT and operational technology (OT) environments across the vessel lifecycle.
The cooperation comes at a time of escalating maritime threat levels and increased ship connectivity, which is expanding the attack surface.
…said Nir Ayalon, CEO, Cydome adding that generative AI is transforming how hackers expose system vulnerabilities.
“As vessels become more connected and more regulations are imposed, safeguarding OT is the main concern for maritime companies,” highlighted Ayalon.
He noted that context-aware AI can analyse information across multiple layers of protection, identify the context of events and assess their impact on the vessel as a whole, moving beyond traditional monitoring of isolated systems or standalone anomalies.
Ayalon further explained that by learning the behaviour of third-party devices used onboard vessels or offshore sites, the initiative aims to support shipowners and asset operators with more adaptable cybersecurity solutions for both existing and new digital systems.
In addition, according to Ryan Son, President of the Internet Services Business Unit at Rakuten Symphony and Head of Rakuten Maritime, the collaboration is intended to address security gaps across the vessel lifecycle, from design to daily operations.
As part of the agreement, Rakuten Maritime will be able to provide Cydome’s maritime cybersecurity managed SOC services, where specialists monitor vessels, respond to issues and support faster incident mitigation to reduce operational disruption.
The collaboration also introduces automated risk scoring and a unified fleet-wide risk dashboard, aimed at…
