(TNS) — De Anza College is launching what it touts as Silicon Valley’s first associate degree in applied artificial intelligence this fall, along with six new AI-focused credentials and more than 20 additional new degree and certificate programs.
The new AI programs are designed for students as well as those already in the workforce. The former group can earn a foundational certificate covering basic AI concepts and methodologies before jumping into more technical areas or working on an associate degree; the latter group can earn a similar certificate through a not-for-credit “Applying AI at Work” program. Professionals who want to dive a bit deeper can earn the AI in Business certificate by learning practical skills in generative AI tools for applications like marketing, accounting, human resources and analytics.
The curriculum features a strong emphasis on responsible AI development and ethical practice.
“We believe that we need to actively provide our students with the knowledge and training to make informed choices about engaging with AI,” De Anza’s vice president of instruction Ram Subramaniam said in a release.
NEW DEGREE PROGRAMS
De Anza is also offering two new associate in science degrees this fall: automotive service and repair, and engineering with an electrical engineering track for students preparing to transfer into four-year programs.The community college’s five new mathematics certificates include applied mathematics, pure mathematics, statistics, mathematics for business and social sciences, and elementary mathematics education.
Two new associate degrees — in music and child and adolescent development — guarantee CSU admission for students who complete the degree.
