Apple is reportedly planning to equip the forthcoming best laptop models with anti-snooping screen technology similar to the Privacy Display on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.
A new report suggests Apple has plans to bring the technology to OLED laptops as soon as this year’s expected M6 refresh of the MacBook Pro, specifically the M6 Pro and M6 Max variants. The technology could potentially prevent those in the vicinity of the laptop user snooping on the display from side-on angles.
According to the tipster Shrodinger (via wccftech), the privacy display technology could be coming to consumer laptops like MacBook models far sooner than original expectations. Potentially, three years ahead of the previously mentioned 2029 schedule.
“When can we see these displays on consumer laptops? Well, from the projection, we can start seeing these privacy display panels on laptops soon, starting from the M6 MacBook and some Windows laptops,” the tipster writes.
Our Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra reviewer cited the Privacy Display as the feature most likely to tempt people into an upgrade and predicted it would be replicated by other brands.
He wrote: “This security-minded feature shuts off part of the pixel grid, slashing viewing angles to a tiny window to prevent any over-the-shoulder snooping. You can apply it to the entire screen or just to incoming notifications, and toggle it manually from the Quick Settings menu or have it kick in automatically for certain apps like online banking.
“It’s unique and worked brilliantly in my demo, making the display appear switched off as soon as I angled it away in any direction. You might not working on any secret government projects, but knowing your passwords and private emails aren’t being eyeballed while queueing for coffee or waiting for a bus gets a big thumbs up from me.”
