Alphabet ‘s Google is committing $15 billion to erect new facilities in Montgomery County, Missouri, representing one of the largest technology outlays in the state’s history as the need for artificial intelligence and cloud computing capabilities intensifies.
The endeavor, based in New Florence, Missouri, is anticipated to generate thousands of construction roles during the building phase and hundreds of permanent staff positions once the site becomes operational, according to the firm and Missouri authorities.
Governor Mike Kehoe characterized the initiative as a substantial lift for Missouri’s economic and innovation landscape, while Google President and Chief Investment Officer Ruth Porat stated the organization intends to broaden workforce development and energy cost-reduction programs alongside the infrastructure deployment.
The declaration underscores the rapidly expanding energy demands of hyperscale data centers as leading tech firms compete to secure computational power for AI uses. Power providers across the nation have observed sharp increases in electricity demand projections tied to data center growth, especially in the Midwest and Southeast.
Google noted it has already secured over 1 gigawatt of new generating capacity in Missouri and is aiding the creation of an extra 500 megawatts via collaborations with utility firms, including Ameren.
The company further stressed that, per Missouri legislation enacted in 2025, it will assume full responsibility for the electricity costs and infrastructure expenses directly linked to the data centers’ functioning. Ameren Chairman and CEO Martin Lyons described the project as the most significant economic development undertaking in the utility’s Missouri service region.
