Google announced a major expansion of Google AI Studio at Google I/O 2026, introducing new capabilities designed to help developers and creators rapidly build and deploy applications across the Google ecosystem. The updates include native Android app development support, Google Workspace integrations, a new mobile app, enhanced design customization tools, and free deployment options for new builders.

According to Ammaar Reshi and Mike Taylor-Cai, the platform has become one of the fastest ways for builders to move from a simple prompt to a production-ready application.

One of the biggest additions is deeper integration with the broader Google ecosystem. Developers can now directly access Google Workspace services from within AI Studio, enabling the creation of dashboards using Google Sheets data, applications that organize Google Drive content, and tools that interact with team documents and datasets without leaving the platform.

Google also announced direct export support to Google Antigravity for local development workflows. Conversation history, project files, and secrets can be transferred automatically, allowing teams to continue development and scale projects more efficiently.

To improve customization and visual design, Google AI Studio now includes several new design-focused capabilities. The AI Studio Build agent can automatically generate custom visual assets using Nano Banana, helping developers create tailored user interfaces and mockups without relying on external placeholder graphics. A new in-preview editing tool also allows users to annotate applications directly within the preview window, modify components, and iterate visually in real time.

Google additionally unveiled a new AI Studio mobile app, now available for pre-registration. The app brings the full build-mode experience to smartphones, allowing users to iterate on code, preview builds, remix projects from a mobile gallery, and share live deployments directly from mobile…
