Anthropic’s Project Glasswing and Claude Mythos announcement may have sparked concerns across the cybersecurity community, but Pentagon technology leaders say the emergence of Mythos-style AI models could ultimately strengthen U.S. cyber defense capabilities rather than weaken them.

Katherine Sutton, DOW assistant secretary for cyber policy, emphasized that the focus should not solely remain on the offensive risks associated with advanced cyber AI, according to Breaking Defense.

“I hear a lot of people talking about challenges and threats when they talk about Mythos,” Sutton said. “[But] there’s huge opportunity in these models. One of the foundational things that they’re going to enable is the development of secure code.”

Sutton, who will be speaking at the Potomac Officers Club’s 2026 Cyber Summit this coming Thursday, May 21, argued that traditional cybersecurity workflows, where vulnerabilities are patched over days or weeks, are becoming increasingly unsustainable as AI accelerates both attack and defense timelines. Models like Mythos, she said, could identify and remediate vulnerabilities in “minutes to seconds,” dramatically improving defensive cyber operations.

As conversations around AI-powered cybersecurity continue to accelerate, attendees at the 2026 Cyber Summit will have the opportunity to hear directly from cyber leaders shaping the federal response. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask their pressing questions about Claude Mythos, AI-native cybersecurity, resilience and the evolving threat landscape to keynote speakers:

  • Acting Pentagon Chief Information Security Officer Aaron Bishop
  • DOW’s Assistant Secretary For Cyber Policy Katherine Sutton
  • CISA’s Acting Executive Assistant Director Chris Buttera
  • and many other federal cyber officials
