LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – Great Plains Technology Center hosted an open house May 14, featuring capstone projects from its Python programming students.
The projects showcased a year of software design and applied tech. One project was inspired by Lawton Police’s homeless liaison officer, who visited the class to describe challenges he sees in the community.
Students then built a software tool aimed at helping address those needs, showing how coding can support public service and local outreach.
“Applied engineering and drafting, which is a new program, is going to be here showing off all of their stuff. Aviation Maintenance is also here, and they’re showing off all of their program and what they can do. And then python programming has their capstone event. This is the first year of the program, and my students will be presenting their capstones,” Emily Ozment, Python Programming Instructor said.
The capstone presentations will highlight student work and how career and technology education prepares them for programming and software careers.
