Pitt Community College has completed a major investment in skilled trades education with the opening of a new welding technology facility.

College leaders held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Greenville-Toyota Welding Technology Building, expanding what officials say is already the largest welding program in North Carolina.

The new $17 million facility includes updated equipment, nearly 100 welding booths and robotic training capabilities designed to prepare students for modern industry demands.

School officials said the program continues to grow, with multiple new classes already filled ahead of the fall semester.

“It’s incredible we’re just growing, growing, growing,” said Keith Kinlaw, dean for industry and technology at Pitt Community College. “This new building is going to represent what the program has been doing for years.”

College leaders said the facility was developed with support from local industry partners and reflects collaboration between the college, Pitt County and the community.

They say the expansion is expected to benefit both students and the local workforce, as companies in the region look to hire trained workers from the program.

Officials described the project as both an investment in education and a boost for the area’s economy
