President Donald Trump invited a group of billionaires—worth a combined $870 billion, according to our estimates—to join him on his trip to China this week to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, their first summit of Trump’s second term, which comes amid tensions over trade, the war in Iran and the future of artificial intelligence.

Key Facts

Tesla’s Elon Musk (worth $823.3 billion), Blackstone’s Stephen Schwarzman ($40.5 billion), Apple’s Tim Cook ($2.9 billion), General Electric’s Larry Culp ($1.8 billion) and BlackRock’s Larry Fink ($1.3 billion) are among the billionaires expected to travel to Beijing with Trump, according to a list from the White House.

Other high-profile CEOs joining the trip include Boeing’s Kelly Ortberg, Goldman Sachs’ David Solomon and Citigroup’s Jane Fraser, among 16 total executives from U.S. companies expected to attend the summit.

Several of the executives have pending deals with China—Ortberg said on an earnings call last month that China could order a “big number” of planes from the company, CNBC reported, while Fraser told Bloomberg in November investors were showing renewed interest in China.

Bloomberg reported in March that Boeing was close to finalizing a 500-aircraft order for 737 Max jets to coincide with Trump’s meeting with Xi, according to unnamed sources.

Contra

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (worth an estimated $190.5 billion) reportedly will not attend. Huang said on CNBC last week he would join Trump on the trip if he was invited, and Semafor reported he was among those angling for an invite. Huang is a close advisor to Trump on artificial intelligence.
