Cybersecurity incident tied to Canvas affects school campuses, including CSUB & KHSD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The California State University Chancellor’s Office released a statement that they are aware of a cybersecurity incident impacting CSU campuses, including CSUB.
In a statement, the California State University Chancellor’s Office said:
The California State University (CSU) is aware of a cybersecurity incident involving Canvas, a third-party learning management system used across our campuses. We have been informed that this incident has likely impacted the CSU.We are working diligently to gather more details to better understand the scope and impact of this incident. Protecting the security and privacy of our students and employees is a top priority. We will provide updates as they become available.
An Eyewitness News viewer said the cyberattack was also impacting the Kern High School District and provided a photo of a KHSD device. The photo by the viewer showed the hacker group “ShinyHunters” claiming credit for the attack.
Eyewitness News has reached out to Bakersfield College to see if the campus was impacted as well as Kern High School District.
