Authorities scored a two-for-one bargain last week when a Shelby Township man was arrested for at least two thefts in Lapeer and Macomb counties.

The incident began when Michigan State Police troopers were dispatched on April 12 to a complaint of a breaking and entering at a church in Bruce Township in northern Macomb County.

According to a news release, an investigation showed an intruder had broken into the church and snatched a Mac mini Apple computer and a leaf blower. Troopers processed the scene and located security camera video footage that showed a suspect and suspect vehicle.

Troopers were contacted by the Almont Police Department, who were investigating a separate larceny in their jurisdiction with a similar suspect and suspect vehicle, officials said.

Further investigation confirmed a 33-year-old Shelby Township man was the suspect, police said in the release.

On April 30, MSP troopers and Almont police executed a search warrant on a residence in Shelby Township, where police located stolen property from both incidents as well as a stolen pistol 9mm pistol hidden in the basement ceiling.

The suspect was already in the custody of Shelby Township police on unrelated charges.

Authorities said an investigators report will be submitted to the prosecutors office for review.

“We know that criminals often cross jurisdictional boundaries.” F/Lt. Mike Shaw said. “This was great work by troopers and Almont officers to determine this suspect had committed several crimes and also recover key evidence. Great work by all.”
