Google has entered into an agreement with the US Defense Department to permit the use of its artificial intelligence systems for classified military work, as confirmed by a Pentagon official. The deal was signed at 4 p.m. on Monday, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The spokesperson stated that the amended agreement includes providing the Pentagon with API access, enabling the agency to connect directly with Google’s software, but it does not involve custom work or model development. Both the Pentagon official and the person familiar with the matter requested anonymity to discuss contractual issues.
