Prior to November 2022 when ChatGPT entered public use, success followed a familiar pattern. Leaders scaled operations, optimized efficiency, and relied on proven strategies to drive predictable outcomes. These approaches often reflected conditions where cause and effect remained stable and largely linear.
Artificial intelligence has since reshaped this environment through continuous disruption, radical unpredictability, and decentralized complexity, which has altered how value gets created and how decisions unfold across systems.
Many leaders still interpret this transformation through a narrow lens, framing choices as human or machine, automation or employment, efficiency or capability. This tendency reflects the fallacy of the false dichotomy, which reduces complex systems into opposing options and excludes blended outcomes.
This reduction limits strategic thinking and constrains performance across organizations. Moving forward requires a shift beyond binary logic through reconfiguring work, integrating capability with technology, and adopting hybrid intelligence as the dominant operating model.
