If you use Google Gemini, you’ve probably noticed that it wants to learn as much about you as possible, both through conversation and from any personal details you might share. The intent is to better personalize its responses to you. But at what point do you worry that the AI chatbot may know too much and possibly use that information without your knowledge or permission?

Before you do anything, take a moment to understand what information is collected. The list includes submitted prompts, shared files, videos, photos, browser pages, transcripts, recordings from Gemini Live, the names and custom instructions of your Gems, and any additional instructions you give Gemini to tailor its responses.

Google offers several settings you can tweak to better control your privacy, though it makes certain changes difficult. Google allows you to delete past conversations and revoke Gemini’s access to Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Calendar. You can also use Gemini in temporary mode so it won’t save your chats.
