Rumoured for years, 2026 could finally be the year Apple launches its first folding phone, taking on Samsung and Google with what could be called the iPhone Ultra.
For months, insiders have discussed a complete shake-up to Apple’s iPhone launch strategy. Reputable leakers have suggested the tech giant could push the standard iPhone 18 to 2027 as it doubles down on its more premium models in September, including the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
As always, while nothing’s confirmed yet, it appears the upcoming iPhone Fold will take on a book-style design that opens out into a tablet-like display. Apple is also said to be working on a completely crease-free design, with the latest mock-ups showing what the iPhone Ultra could look like when released in September. Latest Apple iPhone Fold rumours
On 22 April, Vadim Yuryev from the Max Tech YouTube channel shared a series of images and videos of dummy units of Apple’s rumoured foldable iPhone. What’s immediately clear is that Apple might not be going tall with its first foldable like Samsung and Google, but opting for something wider and more compact instead, fitting more easily inside a pocket.
When comparing the iPhone Fold to the iPhone 17 Pro Max in its unfolded state, it appears the foldable is roughly the same width as the Pro Max in landscape but significantly taller. That could make it way better for watching content on the go with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
