The delay is reportedly due to ongoing DRAM and NAND flash shortages, which are also affecting other products like the Mac Studio.
While the redesigned M6 Pro and M6 Max variants may be pushed back, the base M6 MacBook Pro could still launch earlier without a major redesign, following a staggered release strategy similar to the M5 series. The production challenges, highlighted in Mark Gurman’s report, suggest buyers may need to hold off on upgrades for a longer period.

Apple is reportedly facing continued supply challenges despite efforts to streamline its component sourcing. On the software front, macOS 27 is expected to be ready by fall and may introduce touchscreen optimisations, particularly for higher-end models like those powered by the M6 Pro and M6 Max chips. This indicates that Apple’s software ecosystem is on track, further reinforcing that production bottlenecks are the primary reason behind the delayed launch of the next-generation MacBook Pro lineup.
Even when the M6 MacBook Pro family eventually arrives, Apple is unlikely to phase out the current M5 lineup entirely. Instead, older models are expected to remain part of the portfolio, offering more affordable options alongside the redesigned M6 variants.
