An important update has been released by Apple and its vital users check their phones without delay.

Apple has just announced the release of an important update that iPhone owners would be wise to watch out for. The upgrade is available now for anyone who hasn’t – or can’t – switch to the latest operating system from Apple. iOS 18 was replaced by iOS 26 back in September, but some devices were not compatible with this latest and greatest software.
That meant some with older devices, such as iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max, were left without new features and security upgrades.
However, Apple has now felt the need to release a new version of iOS 18 – called 18.7.7 – to more phones in a bid to protect users from a worrying bug called DarkSword.
“We enabled the availability of iOS 18.7.7 for more devices on April 1, 2026, so users with Automatic Updates turned on can automatically receive important security protections from web attacks called DarkSword,” Apple confirmed on its security pages.
DarkSword is not something anyone should ignore. Those targeted could find that personal data could be hacked using this bug, which can bypass normal security protections and run arbitrary code.
This is a dangerous iPhone hacking tool that quietly compromises and spies on affected devices.
Those with iOS 26 on their devices don’t need to worry, as that very latest operating system is not affected.
However, anyone still using iOS 18 must check for this latest update from Apple to stay safe. To see what’s installed on your device, simply head to Settings, General, Software Update – here you’ll see what version of iOS is running.
