It’s not quite the same sentiment as the ’80s Gordon Gekko “Greed is Good” credo, but there are times you just don’t want to make any concessions on power or speed when you’re pricing out a new laptop. The no-prisoners no-compromises approach to laptop shopping will invariably lead you to Apple’s brand-new colossus flagship, the 2026 MacBook Pro with M5 Pro chip.

Now, just weeks after the M5 Pro model’s debut, Amazon’s taking the first price cut, bringing it down by $150, from $2,199 to $2,050. This 14.2-inch model of the MacBook Pro is absolutely jacked, with 24GB of unified memory and a full terabyte of SSD storage to go along with the 15-core CPU and 16-core GPU version of the M5 Pro processor. Long story short, you’re not going to find a laptop that comes as close to being the total package as this one.

Not Last Year’s Model

The distinction between the M5 chip released by Apple this past October and the M5 Pro that powers this MacBook pro is very important. The M5 Pro is a different animal entirely: It has a dual-fan cooling setup, a 15-core CPU, a 16-core GPU, and a Neural Accelerator built into each GPU core for on-device AI workloads. It’s an absolute powerhouse of a processor, and it’s built with AI very high on its priority list, namely Apple Intelligence. On-device AI combined with Apple’s privacy protection put to rest those nagging fears about AI sharing your queries and data with the world.

The 16-core GPU pairs with a 16-core Neural Engine for background AI tasks, and the whole package has access to Thunderbolt 5, which wasn’t available on the base M5. That matters for anyone using fast external storage or high-bandwidth peripherals. SSD read and write speeds hit a scorching 14.5GB/s, and the system starts with 24GB of unified memory and 1TB of storage — more than enough future-proofing runway.
