A proposal to install “smart” light poles in downtown Stanton could bring enhanced audio and lighting, emergency alerts and public Wi-Fi to the city — along with license plate tracking capabilities, which raises questions about surveillance and privacy. The Stanton City Commission on Tuesday evening heard a presentation from Intellistreets, a Farmington Hills-based company that transforms streetlights into “intelligent, connected assets.” The presentation was arranged at the request of Stanton Planning Commission Chairwoman Tammy Ferguson, who is married to Stanton Mayor Bill Ferguson.
