Beginning this fall, two graduate degrees within the College of Business’s Department of Operations Management and Information Systems (OM&IS) will be reimagined to emphasize their focus on artificial intelligence and analytics.

Formerly known as the Master of Science in Data Analytics (MSDA) degree, this degree has been transformed into the Master of Science in Business Analytics and AI (MSBA&AI). This change has been made to better align with emerging workforce needs and evolving industry demand. This name change is designed to reflect the program’s current and increasing focus on the applications of data analytics and artificial intelligence to business decision-making processes.

“Over the past decade, data analytics has matured into a broader, more strategic discipline that integrates artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning into business decision-making,” said OM&IS Chair Charles Petersen. “Employers increasingly seek graduates who cannot only analyze data but also design and apply AI-driven models that enhance automation, predictive insights and competitive advantage.”

The program’s curriculum has already expanded beyond traditional descriptive and predictive analytics to include courses in machine learning, AI applications and data-driven business strategy. The new title better represents these advanced capabilities and signals to prospective students and employers that the program equips graduates with both technical proficiency (data science, AI tools) and business acumen (strategy, process optimization and value creation). This program will continue to be offered asynchronously online and can be completed in as little as 12 months.
