Some Android users are running into trouble with the YouTube app right now. The Cast button has suddenly disappeared for many of them. In the past few days, several people shared their experiences on Reddit in the YouTube subreddit.
One detailed post on the subreddit yesterday described how the icon vanished completely. It stayed missing even after the user forced stopped the app, switched Wi-Fi off and on, and rebooted their phone.
A similar complaint appeared a few days earlier on March 19. That person woke up to find the button gone and could not get it back, despite restarting everything.

Some say the button is also missing from the home page, which frustrates people who use their TV often. Reinstalling the app worked for a short time in some cases, but the button disappeared again once YouTube updated. That is not a promising sign if the issue lies in the current build.
There is another thread here reporting the icon missing from the top right corner, and a reply there says reinstalling the app brought it back only temporarily. More reports are here and here.
I tested it on three separate Android phones and an iPhone, and the Cast button showed up fine on all of them. Still, with so many similar complaints appearing at once, this seems to be a wider problem.

One user mentioned that granting the nearby devices permission in Android settings fixed it for them. Even so, the pattern in these reports makes it appear tied to YouTube specifically rather than a general casting glitch.
Since most reports seem to be coming in from Android users, it looks like this is specifically affecting the Android app, but if you’ve noticed the same problem on iOS, feel free to drop a comment below to let us know.
At the time of this writing, YouTube has not acknowledged the problem officially. We’ll update the article if and when there are any further developments.
